Largo ease out Musselburgh
On a humid overcast Saturday Largo 2XI entertained Musselburgh CC in a match sponsored by FT + DC Wallace, Leven.
Mussleburgh’s late arrival lost them the toss and Largo elected to field. The openers found runs hard to come by with some excellent fielding and in particularly good bowling from Seath and Lister. Seath bowled opener Smith with the scoreboard on 6 and then again 5 runs later had their skipper Turnbull heading back to the pavilion. Musselburgh then consolidated their innings and batted sensibly for 15 overs. Hobday got a further breakthrough when he trapped McDonald leg before, with the score on 49 in the 24 over Largo were still in control. A useful partnership with Mackenzie and Halliday was beginning to establish itself and Largo looked as though they would be chasing another high score in their innings, however Fleming got a vital run out which broke the 70 run partnership. With wickets in hand Musselburgh started to swing the bat but the incoming batsmen could not handle Sayer who bowled Allen and Miller for a pair of Ducks. The Craighead father and son partnership but on 19 runs to finish the Mussleburgh Innings on 148 for 7.
In reply Largo got of to a good steady start keeping the scoreboard ticking over at 2.5 an over. In the 10 over Galloway was bowled just as he was starting to look comfortable. Their then followed a small collapse as Tocher was bowled for 3, Bentley retiring hurt after attempting a quick single and Sayer being bowled for 5. D Cook then joined Dakin at the crease and this partnership steadily put runs on the board, with Cook easily finding the boundary and on one occasions the field not to the amusement of the opposition. Unfortunately with 4 runs required for the win Cook was bowled for a well constructed 75. Fleming joined Dakin at the middle and obtained the runs for victory, Dakin carrying his bat for 32. With four games left in the season the 2 XI are top of the league but cant afford any slip ups as SMRH are hard on their heels, next week Largo travel to Edinburgh to meet old rivals Morton.
Musselburgh 148 for 7 (Mackenzie 58, Halliday 37, Seath 3-24)
Largo 149 for 4 (D Cook 75, D Dakin 32, Millar 2-31, Roos 2-53)
