Draw for an Under Strength Largo.

Largo 2 XI travelled to Edinburgh on the first glorious sunny Saturday of the season to play Boroughmuir 2 XI in a game sponsored by Thornbridge Sawmills Ltd Grangemouth.

Fielding first Largo restricted Boroughmuir to 2 an over for the first 9 overs and Skipper Nairne had bowled Gilbert.  Boroughmuir’s Binnie looked comfortable with the bat and partnered by Davidson the run rate gradually increased to four an over.  Even a fly past by the Red Arrows could not inspire Largo to better things but eventually the 109 run partnership was broken when D. Cook bowled Davidson for 37.  Six overs later Binnie was eventually caught, by a quick reacting Cook 6 runs short of his century.  With wickets in hand Boroughmuir attacked the under strength bowling and put on 49 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the last seven overs of their innings,  Boroughmuir finished on 194 for 6 of 47 overs.

With veteran G. Mclean in the Boroughmuir ranks Largo new this would be a difficult target to achieve.  Mclean struck in his first over bowling N. Duthie for 1.  I. Barnes joined Dakin at the crease and this pair pulled Largo’s Innings together.  However with the score on 64 the 57 run partnership was broken when Barnes was unluckily run out for 32.  Cook joined Dakin and after a shaky start eventually got his timing,  just as the partnership was beginning to get some momentum Dakin was stumped on 47.  With 104 on the board and 91 runs required of 10 overs Wilson and Cook had a difficult task ahead of them.  Both batsmen played well and were scoring freely but just never quite made the desired run rate.  Cook eventually being bowled for 31.  Largo finished 156 for 4 and had to settle for a losing draw.   Next week they travel to West Lothian 3 XI.
