Records tumble for Largo 2nd XI

Records tumbled for Largo 2nd XI as they comprehensively defeated newly promoted Carlton 3rd XI at East Drive in their second league match on Saturday at East Drive. A record first wicket partnership of 121 set Largo on the way to a best-ever league total of 210. Carlton asked Largo to bat on wining the toss and Dakin and Galloway were quickly into their stride and scoring at 3 an over. Galloway retired hurt having deflected a ball on to his nose but Guy Robinson carried on the good batting and the fifty was posted in the 17th over. Before the thirtieth over had come Largo had reached 4 an over with Robinson now in imperious form. A shooter dismissed him for 56 with 7 of his last eleven scoring strokes being boundaries. Dakin, after a classical Atherton like innings of 36, followed immediately, but Galloway happily returned to the fray. Soon skipper Nairne joined young Barclay and in 9 overs they hammered 69 runs until with the score having passed 200 Largo declared after only 42 overs. 51 runs had been added in the last five overs.

If there was any complacency in the Largo ranks it was soon dispelled as young Scott played some crashing off drives, but as last week, the Robinson brothers were soon in the action taking sharp catches to remove both openers. When Sayer with his fourth ball in championship cricket, had Murray caught at slip by Dakin Carlton were on the rack. Aided by further excellent catching Nairne went on to record career-best figures of 7 for 25 as Carlton slid inexorably towards defeat.

Largo 2nd XI will be hoping to continue their impressive early season form at Boroughmuir next Saturday.
