Largo in Valiant Run Chase

Largo entertained Holy Cross at East Drive on Saturday and winning the toss the home side opted to field first.

The visitors began well with Ellis in particular looking in fine form. Smith was introduce into the attack in the 10th over and got the
breakthrough with the score on 73. Ellis continued to play the dominant role and his colleagues chipped in with scores around him as the total
mounted. The Largo fielders stuck to the task and bowlers bowled with great conviction but Ellis was not to be denied and duly completed an
excellent century. Holy Cross completed their innings on 255 for 5.

Largos task was just over 5 runs an over very achievable at East Drive. The Holy Cross opening attack of Worsnip and Bonfield however bowled with great skill and runs were hard to come by. Walker and Stinson however remained solid and once the new ball attack gave way to change bowlers the runs began to flow freely. Walker showing a welcome return to form reached 50 first and went on to score 70 in a first wicket stand of 167. Stinson after taking 101 balls to reach fifty completed his second 50 and his  first century for Largo in just 33 balls more. He was out for 104 a great effort. Robinson and Murdoch took over the task and looked comfortable until a mix up led to Murdoch being run out, a crucial turning point in the run chase. Thereafter wickets tumbled and noone could keep Robinson company he was out in the final over for a fine 42 as Largo came up just  short by 13 runs.

A good team effort by Largo the did not quite receive the rewards it deserved. Next week they will be hoping for the same at home to
