Bowlers Paradise

Largo 1st XI travelled through to the capital again on Saturday to face Murrayfield DAFS in East League Division 2 in what turned out to be an enthralling encounter.  Largo skipper Duncan lost the toss and was asked to field.  the pitch was slow, green and very tricky so the Fife men were hoping to skittle the Edinburgh side out for less than 100.  They nearly did so with excellent bowling from Brent Bentley who bowled his 10 overs straight through, conceding only 7 runs in his ten overs and picking up 2 wickets, a fine performance with the ball from the youngster.  Bob Mowat bowled his ten overs straight through and picked up were he left off from last week as he picked up 2 wickets for only 11 runs.  Largo had their hosts at 78 for 7 but some later order hitting by Abdul and Mohammed saw Murrayfield up to 136 all out as Barclay cleaned up the tail for the Fifers.

Largo started their run chase well as openers Walker and Stinson put on 45 before Stinson was caught behind for 17.  This began an incredible change in the game as Murrayfield bowler Simpson then had Robinson caught at slip next ball and then completed his hatrick as he cleaned up last weeks man of the match Bux.  45 for 3 soon became 56 for 4 as Walker was given LBW for 20 and Largo were in danger of a total collapse but Kinnear and skipper Duncan set about repairing the damage.  The pair put on 45 runs before Kinnear played onto his stumps for a hard working 20.  This again proved to be another turning point in the game as then Asman was run out and Mowat and Barclay were soon to depart not long afterwards.  With 9 overs to go Largo were 107 for 8, skipper Duncan was still there and had to try and see it home for his team as he was joined by Smith, who played the innings of his life,  he helped his skipper and his team to get up to the total.  Largo needed 2 runs to win off the last over but when a tired skipper was run out with 2 balls remaining, the scores were tied and it was left to young Bentley to hit the winning run off the second last ball of the match.
