Bux stars in League Opener

Largo travelled to the capital on Saturday to kick off the new East League season. In one off the few games to survive Friday nights heavy rain the
East Drive men duly lost the toss and were asked to bat on a very damp wicket that was badly under prepared.

In tough conditions the visitors struggled and both openers were back in the pavilion with 18 runs on the board. Robinson looked in good touch
before a loose stroke so him depart for 18. Bux however was coping well and growing in confidence with good support from the lower order he
engineered an excellent 62 his maiden league half century for the club. With good late innings contributions from Duncan, Barclay and Mowat Largo
were very satisfied to post 163 for 9 in their 50 overs.

In reply the new ball pairing and Barclay and Bentley failed to get the early breakthrough and the hosts looked comfortable early on. The change of
attack saw Man of the match Bux and Mowat bring the game firmly under the control of Largo. Bowling unchanged for 20 overs the two picked up 5 wickets conceding just 53 runs. Backed up by excellent fielding including a stunning catch from Bentley, Largo were on course for victory and it was left to Smith to wrap things up with the winning wicket.

Largo will be delighted with a victory achieved in difficult conditions and will be looking to continue this form next week when they travel to
Murrayfield/DAFS.
