Aleems too Strong for
Largo
Largo
entertain
Kilmarnock
in the Lloyds TSB Small Clubs Cup and what a contest it turned out to be!
Killie won the toss and elected to bat on an excellent batting surface. Again
the
Largo
bowlers toiled a little bit in the heat and with the Kille dangerman Aleem on
song, it was going to be a long afternoon in the field.
Largo
stuck to their task well and with a bit more luck might have captured the
wicket of Aleem, who went on to score a magnificent 134. Largo
eventually had Killie 288 for 8 after their 45 overs, a daunting total to
chase but on the East Drive wicket it was certainly achievable.
A
slight setback saw Largo opener Walker tweak his hamstring in the field, but
with the aid of a runner he was able to open the innings. In front of a
sizeable
East Drive
crowd the Largo team produced one of the most exciting run chases seen at the
ground as everyone of the
Largo
batsmen contributed to the excitement. Despite his injury
Walker
scored 50. exciting partnerships developed between Murdoch and Asman and
Murdoch and Barclay as the Fifers edged their way closer to the target but
with an over to spare and the loss of a few wickets Largo were all out for
278, a magnificent effort but Killie had held there nerve in the field. It had
all come down to one man’s innings, Aleem.
Largo
can be very proud of their efforts and they got a tremendous reception from a
disappointed but proud home crowd.
