Largo Lose out in Season Finisher

Largo's 1st XI hopes of promotion to Division 1 next year ended in disappointment as they lost to Grange in the last league game of the season.  After a couple of heavy downpours in the capital that game was played on a tricky wicket.  Largo were bowled all out for a meagre 82 largely thanks to the difficult legspin bowling of Meakin who accounted for 5 of the Largo batsmen.  In reply Grange were finding it just as difficult as they struggled against the pace bowling of the two Sharif's.  It was always going to be difficult to try and defend a low score like that but the Fife men's fighting spirit was never in doubt and they made the Grange batsmen work hard for their victory.  The fielding was top drawer but in the end it wasn't enough as Grange past the total with 7 wickets down.

A disappointing end to what has been a very good season for the Largo men.  They just missed out on promotion to Fife rivals Freuchie 2nds in Division 2 of the East of Scotland League  and reached the Semi Final of the Scottish Small Clubs Cup so all in all it has been a fairly successful season, a real team effort mixed in with some excellent individual performances, notably 15 year old Safyaan Sharif who is a real cricketing talent which was capped off for him by playing in the Scotland U15 side in the recent European Championships. Skipper Ally Duncan will be looking to go one better next season in each of the competitions and clinch promotion as well as get to the cup final.
