Largo Beat League Leaders Agian

Saturday saw Largo 1st XI get back to winning ways after a thrilling victory over league leaders Carlton in East League Division 2.  After the disappointment of losing to West Lothian last week Largo were determined to keep their promotion hopes alive.  This was the perfect tonic for the Fife men as they became only the second team to beat Carlton this season the other being Largo earlier in the season, so the Fifers are very much the capital men's bogey team.

Largo batted first and Walker and Sharif put on a good opening stand of over 100 before Sharif was caught and bowled for 55.  Then Robinson was run out for 6 before Kinnear contributed a hard working 22.  Walker was eventually out for a fine 81.  There was a period when Largo got bogged down in the middle part of the innings as Carlton tightened up but thanks to a thoroughly  entertaining 23 from Safyaan Sharif Largo were able to post 235.  Choughley was the pick of the Carlton bowlers finishing with figures of 6-40.  A good competitive total had been set.

Carlton started out of the blocks quickly as opener Siddique raced up to his 50 in no time.  Largo had to take a couple of quick wickets to ensure the game wouldn't slip away from them.  Brent Bentley, making his first team debut, provided the answer when he had danger man Siddique LBW for 59.  This began a collapse for Carlton as batsmen came and went very quickly.  David Smith with a fine exhibition of left arm spin, took 5 wickets including ex Largo man and now Carlton skipper Brent Lockie, much to his delight!  There were some late flurries from Elder and Lewis scoring 36 and 34 respectively but they were always behind the scoring rate and Mohammed Sharif cleaned up the tail leaving Carlton all out for 200.  Smith finished with figures of 5-32 and debutant Bentley with 3-35.  A highly competitive match played in a good spirit.  The game was sponsored by Sale of the Century.
