Glenrothes take the honours

In a game sponsored by Innes Johnston & Co, Largo travelled the short distance to the New Town to face high-flying Glenrothes. It was a bad toss to lose as Largo had first go on a slow wicket but made a patient start until Sharif was first one to go, run out going for a tight single.  Walker was keen to make amends and he and Robinson pushed the score along until the former chipped the ball back to the wiley Rowley. Kinnear and Robinson kept the scoreboard ticking over before Kinnear fell on his sword trying to up the scoring rate. Robinson kept dadding on and with the support of Bob Mowat, passed his 50 with a typically elegant shot. Largo completed their allotted 50 overs and set Glenrothes 162 for victory.

Glenrothes started steadily but were rocked with the early loss of the wicket of Rowley. The wicket of captain Donaldson followed this and Largo sensed there could be a chance against the league leaders. This proved to be a false dawn as Dale motored on and helped by some indifferent bowling, pulled the homeside near to the finishing line. Even the loss of his wicked provided temporary rest bite as the Largo total proved to be insufficient and Glenrothes claimed the 20 points with 10 overs to spare.

Largo need to sharpen up their bowling if they want to avoid being dragged into the relegation mire.
