Robinson "6" to Finish
Largos running streak showed no signs of slowing down with
a largely one-sided victory over SMRH at Inner Leith.
Using the ball sponsored by Allan Moncrieff Alarms, Lundin Links, Largo opted to field first on a wicket and outfield that drew complements from all the players. Both the SMRH openers were immediately given lifelines as they were dropped of the bowling of Sharif and then Barclay. Kane didn’t get a second chance when Barclay clean bowled him for 11 with the score on 20. Danger man Innes, who scored 86 in the corresponding fixture at Largo, strode confidently to the crease intent on inflicting more damage on the visitors bowling. He started brightly enough and with Farquharson, who by this time was batting with the aid of a runner, they began to accumulate the runs. Sharif was a determined man though and in his9th over in a row claimed the prize scalp of Innes with a caught and bowled chance. Largo sensed a chance to close out the innings of SMRH out quickly but Farquharson was proving to be a difficult batsman to dislodge as he passed 50 in typically robust fashion. The problem was that nobody was hanging about in the centre long enough to keep him company as SMRH lost wickets at regular intervals. Farquaharson him self departed just 2 short of a well deserved 100 and with his back in the pavilion SMRHs innings ran out of momentum and it closed with the home side all out for 209. A Largo side can never be happy when it drops 7 catches in the field but Wilson and Robinson deserve mention for keeping the runs down on the posh side. Best bowling was Sharif, 4 for 63.
Sharif was the first bat to go in the 5th over but not before he has smacked 18 and pushed the Largo score for 22. The run machine that is Guy Robinson strode out to the centre and viewed the situation. In the meantime, Walker was caught in front of his stumps, adjudged LBW and Largo were 47 for 2. This became 70 for 3 when a mix up between Robinson and Kinnear meant the latter was back in the hutch but not before he had added 12. Robinson was keen to atone for his part in the run out and began to play the sort of game the Largo faithful has enjoyed this year. Mowat was happy to play second fiddle to Robinson as both of them engineered the victory for Largo. The ball was a frequent visitor to the boundary as both the Largo batsmen hit top gear Robinson pausing briefly to draw breath after notching another 50 but he was not finished there. The SMRH fielders knew the game was all but won and the interest was held if Mowat could reach 50 and Robinson 100. It was Boys Own Stuff as Mowat reached 50 and channelled his energies in ensuring the magical three figures was reached by his playing partner. Robinson was on 92 and the score was 206, 3 need for victory. Robinson hits a 2 to bring him to 94 and with a 6 needed gracefully lofts the ball over square leg for the maximum to win the game for Largo and clock up his second century of the summer, fanastic stuff!!
Next week, Largo entertains the joint league leaders, Marchmont.
