No Sunshine at Leith for Largo
It was more four seasons in one day than Sunshine on Leith
as Largo travelled over to the capital to face Leith. In a game sponsored by the
FCE Group Fife, Largo won the toss and asked the home side to have first use of
the wicket. Largo welcomed back Sharif for his first game of the season and it
took him to his 20th ball before he claimed his and Largos first
wicket of the day. He claimed his second with an outstanding piece of bowling
and for a while the home side were wobbling on 34 for 2. When Stuart Ritchie
made it 50 for 3, Largo had thoughts of a sub-hundred total. These were dashed
when Watt and Allanson took the score to 126 before Sharif came back and bowled
the former for 40. Mowat claimed the other stalwart of the Leith innings and
Largo rallied to reduce Leith from 126 for 4 to 153 all out. Sharif returned 4
for 22 and the impressive Matthews 3 for 11. Special mention to Bob Mowat who
bowled 15 overs in succession, into the wind, for 1 for 52.
Largo were 26 for 4 before they had any thoughts of winning
the game. Guy Robinson and Bill Simpson who raised the score to 78 before
Simpson fell for 9 fought the rear guard action. When Robinson fell for 61 the
game was all but lost and the innings was brought to a close for 111.
Largo need to find a batting partner who can stay with the in-form Robinson if they want to build on the solid foundation he creates. Hopefully there will be a much improved performance next week when Largo welcome SMRH to East Drive.
