Guy is the Guy!!
Largo travelled to the picturesque village of Doune to play Clackmannan in the first game of the second half of the season.
In a game sponsored by Burnmill Joinery, Largo lost the
toss and was asked to field first. Sharif and Barclay, who has discovered
consistency and a good line and length is better than raw pace, shackled the
openers and there was little surprise when Barclay claimed the first wicket with
12 on the board. Clackmannan, who were buoyed by their first win of the season
last week, found it tougher going as the Largo bowlers were not in any mood to
be giving runs away. With no homeside batsman really showing confidence with the
bat it was down to the Largo fielders to keep the pressure on and support their
bowling colleagues. Guy Robinson in particular took a couple of fine catches,
diving low in front of him and is showing he is the inform cricketer in the
league this season. Clackmannan had a late flourish and pushed the score up to
113 when the final batsman was out. Bowling was tight with the wickets shared
between all the Largo bowlers.
After two balls of the second innings Largo were 4 for 1 as
the first ball was hit for 4 and the second one resulted in Sharif being caught
at point. This meant “birthday boy” Mowat was joined in the middle by
Robinson and these two put on a display of sensible batting, taking no risks,
and pushing Largo forward to the victory and 20 points. This didn’t mean the
ball was left unpunished as Robinson displayed his full locker of elegant shots
while Mowat opted for force. Even with Mowat departing, the run rate didn’t
drop as Gordon Kinnear added his batting power to the run chase. It was fitting
that Robinson should hit the winning runs as he finished unbeaten on 59 and
Kinnears cameo netting him 30 no.
