Largo seal win at Penicuk

Largo travelled to Penicuk in search of a victory that would ease their relegation worries. In a game sponsored by Balmashie Holiday Cottages, St. Andrews, Largo lost the toss and were asked to bat in conditions that were perfect for playing cricket. The openers made steady progress until Duncan fell for 6 with the score on 51. Two more players came and went before Sharif was joined in the middle by Bob Mowat. These two began to construct a partnership that would turn into the cornerstone for the Largo innings. Sharif raced past 50 and was eventually dismissed for a purposeful 62. Mowat followed soon after for 24 and although the tail attempted to add runs to the total, no batsman could reach double figures as the run race reached a crescendo. Largo had posted a total of 162, of which extras contributed 50.

Sharif was a handful with the ball and his first 5 over stint realised 2 wickets for 2 runs with 4 maidens bowled! Chris Barclay chipped in with the other wicket to leave the homeside on 16 for 3.  Largo took control and the change bowlers continued the pressure the openers had started, with Mowat in particular being is normal wily self. Penicuik kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, just as partnerships were in the process of forming and lost their final man when the total was on 104. All the bowlers contributed but two  stood out- Sharif bowled very well and certainly deserved more than two wickets and Bob Mowat bowled 15 overs in a row in the blazing heat to return figures of 15 overs, 4 maidens, 4 wickets for 30 runs.

With results elsewhere conspiring against Largo, they are not yet out of the relegation mire and need a good result next week at home to Falkland to continue their survival.
