Mixed fortunes for the cricketing weekend.
Largo had contrasting fortunes at the weekend as they played a double header, one in the league and one in the Small Clubs Cup.
On Saturday, they travelled to play league leaders Holly Cross. Winning the toss Largo asked the homeside to bat. It was bad timing for Largo to have a bad day in the field with 3 catches dropped and a general lethargy in the fielding display. By the end of 50 overs Holy Cross had posted a formidable 199. Best bowing figures were 4 for 34, returned by Sharif
Largo started brightly enough but the introduction of change bowler Gallagher changed the game as he possessed the sort of pace very rarely seen in the 2nd division and by the time he finished with 6 for 39, Largo were all out for 152. Sharif knocked up a decent 53 and Gordon Kinnear had a fine 43.
It was different on the Sunday when Largo started their chase to regain the Small Clubs cup with a 45 run win over St Andrews University Staff. Largo batted first and after the 45 overs had passed Largo had accumulated 187 for 8 with Kinnear scoring a top half century, finishing with 58 and Bill Simpson with a welcome return to form with 40. After an early scare when the Staff had a go at chasing the score Largo bowled them all out for 142 with Stuart Ritchie on dazzling form with 3 for 17 after 10 overs.
