It was Sunshine on Leith as Largo battled out a draw away to Marchmont.

In a game sponsored by Donaldsons Sawmills, Leven, Largo had problems from the first ball when strike bowler Sharif pulled up with a suspected pulled muscle.  Ashgar took over from him and bowled his normal accurate line. This allowed Chris Barclay to attacked the Marchmont batsmen and he did so with vigour. Sharif rejoined the attack and bowling of two steps caused uncertainty in the Edinburgh side. First wicket came from a run out brought on by the tight bowling of Sharif and the continued hostility of Barclay. All the Marchmont bats got a start but a combination of  good bowling, tight fielding and  a slightly suspect wicket kept the score below a manageable total. After 52 overs Marchmont had reached 193 for 8. Sharif returned 5 for 69, quite extraordinary considering his injury, Ashgar  9.4 overs for 22 runs and Chris Barclay, not for the first time this season, was luckless as he bowled better than his figures suggested.

Largo lost their first wicket on 30 when Walker called for a quick single and didn’t make his ground in time before the direct hit run him out. Further disaster struck 8 runs later when the inform Ashgar was caught at cover. Mowat, who earlier had looked resplendent with his matchday belongings, joined Sharif in an attempt to score some runs. Sharif was next to go when the score was on 59 but not before he had scored 35 of them. Largo lost the run rate at this stage as the Marchmont bowlers bowled well and the batters were fearful of loosing more wickets. Youngster Wilson kept going and was dismayed to see his captain go for 11 and Largo changed their mindset from winning the game to not loosing it. Marchmont swapped the bowlers about in attempt to take wickets. When the dogged Wilson went for an excellent 31 the alarm bells started to ring but the tail was resolute and batted out for a draw and 8 valuable points. With results elsewhere going Largos way it now seems unlikely they will be relegated this season.

The final league game  of this campaign is at home to SMRH2nds.
