Weather snatches chance of victory.

Largo 1st X1 were beaten by the weather when their game away to Haddington was abandoned after tea.

In a game sponsored by the Paperbox, Lundin Links, Largo lost the toss and was asked to bat on a wicket that suited the bowling team. This meant initially runs were slow to accumulate which was compounded with the early departure of Sharif for 6 when the score was on 17.  Andy Donaldson joined Bob Mowat at the crease and these two got the scorebook ticking over with one and twos and the occasional boundary. Following the departure of Mowat for 19 Donaldson upped the tempo with some sizzling ground strokes. He was handily set for a big score but fell to a catch at point when he had made 26. Largo at this stage were 64 for 3 and looking shaky. The dependable Kinnear, in partnership with Bill Simpson took the total to near the 100 mark before “wicky” Simpson fell for 12. This did not trouble Kinnear as he continued about his game plan with some quality shots. Alan Tocher played the type of innings only he can with a cameo of 14 and when Kinnear followed soon after for an excellent 39, the Largo run chase faltered momentarily. However, the middle order in Ash, Ali Duncan and particularly Azman Ali projected the Largo score past 150 onto the final total of 171 for 6. Azman produced the sort of knock he has threatened all season with an undefeated 28 that included 3 fours and a mighty 6 over the delirious Largo players! The Largo total was a fine knock and one the players were confident would be enough to win the game.

By the time the 50th over had been completed, a consistent drizzle had descended over the East Lothian town that continued throughout the team break, and the two captains had little option to abandon the game at 5pm.  Next week Largo are back on their travels as they cross the bridge to play high-flying Holy Cross in the capital.
