Largo lose again.
Largo 1st x1s poor start to the season continued
when they were beaten at home by Grange by 124 runs.
Ina game sponsored by Sale of the Century of Leven and
played in glorious sunshine, Largo won the toss and asked the visitors to bat.
The opening batsmen of Gilmour and Milroy made a steady start scoring 29 off the
first 10 overs. Helped by a flat pitch, a fast outfield and some ineffectual
bowling, these pair put on 104 for the first wicket before Milroy fell to Mowat
after he scored 45. Gilmour departed soon after and when his replacement was
adjudged LBW for nil Largo has thoughts of keeping the Grange score below 200.
However the partnership of McCoy and Thain put on 131 for the fourth wicket
which saw the Grange score race past the 200 mark before McCoy was out for a
sparkling 80. Thain saw the innings through with 53 not out to the 49th
over where the visitors declared on 262 for 4.
Largo’s attempt to match the score posted by the
Edinburgh side faltered early when Ash was back in the pavilion for 5 with the
score on 25. Kinnear soon followed which allowed Sharif to bat with opener
Walker. The run rate was becoming increasingly more difficult to maintain and
when Walker for 30 then Mowat for 4 where out Largo where in serious trouble.
Keeper Simpson at least stayed with Sharif for a while and was there to
congratulate him when he hit his first 50 for the club, but when Sharif was
caught on the boundary for 58 and Simpson followed for 27 the end was in sight.
Largo’s tail offered little resistance and capitulated to leave the final
total 138 all out.
