Largos recent good form continued when they got the better of the draw away to Grange 3rds.
In a game sponsored by Hogans Bar, Lundin Links, Largo lost the toss and were asked to bat. They soon slumped to 26 for 3 as Walker, Donaldson and Sharif as all went in quick succession. The repair work was started by Ashgar and captain Mowat who played sensibly, partly as the situation dictated that and also, the near tropical conditions negated any quick running between the wickets. Mowat became the supporting partner as Ashgar played the shots and there was there was a tremendous roar as he reached his maiden 50 for the club. He continued on but sadly fell 12 runs short of what would have been a magnificent century. He and Mowat had stood in a stand of 122 and with the score on a respectable 148 it was show time as the run push started in earnest. Mowat fell soon after for a patient 38, and Simpson, Ash and Asman all contributed. Once the 50 overs were completed, Largo has posted 193 for 9.
Grange found the Largo bowling its normal miserly self and found that although they had perfect batting conditions, scoring runs was not easy. Sharif claimed the first scalp and form then on Grange were behind on the run rate. The tight bowling continued with the change bowlers, Ashgar and Mowat, and Largo sensed victory once the dangerous White was caught on 48. All chance of an outright result was removed by the gritty batting of Meiken and Wardlaw who nudged the home side’s score to 151 for 6 of Grange’s 50 overs.
With Largo taking 15 points and Grange 10, this result helps Largos fight for survival. Next week they play host to near neighbours Falkland 2nd.
