Largo eased relegation worries with a fine victory at home to Falkland 2nds.

In a game sponsored by   Marco Licensed Grocers, Largo lost the toss and were asked to bat. The talented Ryan Hepburn opened the bowling to Walker and Sharif. The start was slow and as the Falkland bowlers stuck to their task the Largo openers dug in and prepared for a long innings. With Hepburn and Walker cancelling each other it was left to Sharif to try and score some runs but only 21 came of the first 10 overs.  This pedestrian pace continued and another 28 runs were added for the next 10 overs. The first wicket fell when change bowler Lindsay had Walker trapped LBW for 19. This was in the 29th over with the score on 73. This introduced Ashgar to the middle and he got stuck right into the Falkland attack as he and Sharif started to build a defendable total. After 30 overs the score was 81 for1 and by 40 overs these two had moved it to 154 with some fearsome hitting that left no Falkland bowler unpunished. They continued on their merry way and not even the loss of Sharif for a 113 ball 87, that included 2 sixes and 13 fours, slowed the pace as replacement bat Mowat simply gave the strike to Ashgar and occasionally chipped runs in himself. When the 50th over had been bowled the total was 244 for 2 with Ashgar on a magnificent unbeaten 96 built round 11 fours and 4 massive sixes. His innings was at more than a run a ball, something normally only seen on the television!

With Falkland safe in mid-table and a side bristling with batsman, Largo knew the visitors would have a dart at the total. Sharif had differing thoughts however as he claimed the Falkland captain with the first ball of his spell with a very sharp caught and bowled effort. He finished his first over the way he started it by claiming a wicket. This time he produced a snorting bouncer that had Jackson taking cover and gloving a catch to the diving Ash. So after the first over Falkland were 0 for 2 and worse was to follow when Hepburn was run out for four. The dependable pair of Lawson and Lindsay steadied the ship for the visiting side but Lawson fell to Ashgar, the score was 41 for 4.  Lindsay was unfazed by the loss of the wickets and he kept going, and when Brown was out for 5 he was joined at the crease by his son. The Lindsay family kept going and when the younger Lindsay fell for 21 Rory Jackson jointed Stuart in the run chase. Jackson showed plenty shots and these two upped the run chase until Ashgar bowled Jackson for 25 with the score on 150 for 7. The Falkland reply wilted when Lindsay was stumped by Simpson of the bowling of Smith for an excellent 85 and Simpson repeated the feat twice more both of Smith. The visitors reply ended on 169, all the bowlers chipped in but with  Ashgar claiming  4 wickets after his earlier heroics with the bat, and Smith with 3 were seen as the pick.

The recovery continues next week with an away match to Marchmont.
