Largo bowled out at Boroughmuir
Largo slumped to their second successive defeat away at the
hands of Boroughmuir at a windswept Meggetland despite a much improved display.
In a game sponsored by Rob Roy Homes, Crieff,
Largo captain Bob Mowat won the toss and asked the Capital side to have
first bat. Their progress was slow,
primarily due to the tight bowling from Barclay and Ritchie and it was the
former who was rewarded with a wicket in the 11th over with the score
on 16. The Bourghmuir men were finding runs hard to come by and change bowler
Sharif claimed the second wicket courtesy of a fine catch at point by Ali
Duncan. At the fall of this wicket, the
Edinburgh Team started to put their foot on the gas and the ball started to
flash to all parts of the boundary. The middle order of Buchan, Binnie and Patu
all contributed valuable runs in brisk time. This meant that Boroughmuir had
accelerated from 52 for 2 after 25 overs to 182 for 7 off 52 overs. All the
bowlers stuck to their task with Sharif taking 4 for 33 and Chris Barclay bowing
a tidy 15 over spell. The fielding was good with Ali Duncan snapping up another
sharp catch to dismiss Binnie and a superb wicket keeping display from Bill
Simpson.
Largo were set a stiff task of a 183 for victory of 48
overs and the omens were not good when Boroughmuir opener Sumanth sent down a
fiery opening over. The other opener offered some rest bite and Ash pulled him
to the boundary for 4. That was his last score shot and he trundled back to the
pavilion for 4 with the score on 8. Duncan joined his captain Mowat in the
middle but they found it hard going as they were faced with a barrage of short
deliveries and incessant appealing from the home team. Duncan had helped to
nudge the score on to 53 with a contribution of 16 before he fell to the
excellent change bowler Vasu for 16. The Largo boys could not stay with their
captain and when he went on a patient 42, Largo had moved from trying to win the
game to making sure they did not lose it. All hope failed and the game was
finished when the last pair, Fleming and Ritchie were involved in an unfortunate
mix-up which resulted in Fleming run out. Largo’s innings was closed on 114
all out.
Next week it is the first of the Fife Derbies when Largo
entertain Dunnikier in a game they simply must win
