Largo Reach Final

Largo capped a memorable weekend by booking their place in the Readers Small Clubs Cup final on Sunday with a crushing 8 wicket victory over Victoria in Glasgow. With match sponsorship from Hogans Bar Lundin Links, the home side won the toss and elected to bat first on the artificial wicket. The start was nothing short of explosive, with Khan blasting 19 runs in 2 overs. In the 3rd over however he edged a skier to third man and Guy Robinson took an excellent catch.  Two quick wickets then fell and the home side were 24 for 3 and in trouble. A partnership of 44 followed as the home side attempted to repair the damage.  The introduction into the attack of Asman Ali and captain Mowat however put the brakes on the scoring and indeed wickets began to tumble regularly. Simpson started the ball rolling with a sharp stumping and suddenly 68 for 3 became 88 all out. The travelling support were absolutely delighted as the place in the final was becoming nearer and nearer.

Largos reply got off to a slow start with Walker and Robinson tied down by accurate and hostile bowling from Ali and Ahmad. Robinson went with the score on 4 and it appeared that although the target was small it would take a lot of hard work to achieve it. Donaldson arrived at the crease and after an edgy start including being dropped on 0, he opened his account with an imperious hook for 6. This seemed to demoralise the home side and suddenly the runs began to flow. Donaldson was at his brilliant best and Walker at last began to find his timing. With victory near Donaldson lost his wicket holing out at mid wicket for 26. Captain Mowat joined his vice captain and the two saw the  game home with the minimum of fuss as the celebrations began.
