Largo suffered an embarrassing defeat on Saturday at Townhill in a match they had controlled for long periods. Sponsored by Barclay Brothers Transport Methil, Largo won the toss and put the hosts in on the usual damp wicket. Rodden and Barclay as last week were outstanding and quickly had Largo in control as the hosts made a painfully slow start at a run per over. It was a grip the the local men never relinquished throughout the innings. Class bowling and excellent fielding typified by Asman Ali's outstanding run out, meant that Townhill could only muster 96 for 7 in their 52 overs.

Largo began their run chase in bright fashion with Walker scoring runs as freely as he liked. Mowat was unlucky to play on to his stumps with the score on 25, then Walker who had looked in prime form needlessly surrendered his wicket with a very loose stroke. Largo were still in control however and Rodden and Robinson took the total to 60 for 3.Thereafter following Rodden's unlucky dismissal playing on like his captain panic set in among the remaining players. Robinson played well for his 20 but like Walker played a rash stroke when well set. Others gave their wickets away cheaply when a calm approach would have seen victory. Only the vast experience of Barnes who received outstanding support from Ross Walker at number 11 saw largo threaten to steal victory. Alas Barnes perished lbw with 8 runs required for victory.

Largo can take heart from their continued brilliance in the field, however this was a very poor batting display which is frankly unacceptable for players of such talent.

Next week Largo travel to face local rival Freuchie 2.
