Majestic Mowat
Leads Largo to victory.
Largo got back to winning ways with an emphatic 9-wicket victory at home to lowly Trinity.
In a game
sponsored by Hatat House Poly Clinic, Oman, Largo won the toss and asked the
visitors to bat. They made a bright start with 30 runs coming off the first ten
overs with the loss of only one wicket. The ever-reliable Tunnah played a number
of pushes on both side of the wicket while a succession of batsmen attempted to
up the run rate with some cavalier attacking shots. Largo were in danger of
chasing a daunting total until Mowat introduced himself and halted the
escalating run rate. Trinity suffered a Largo-style batting collapse as their
quest for runs faltered and their last man was run out in the last over with the
total on 175. Richie, Brown and Mowat managed two wickets apiece, while 4 of
visiting batsmen contrived to run themselves out.
The home
side suffered the early loss off Kinnear for zero when the scoreboard showing 7.
This brought Mowat to the middle with Walker and these two men initially
consolidated the Largo position. A sharp shower of rain certainly helped the
Largo cause as the visiting bowling attack lost the ability to swing the ball
once it became wet. Mowat in particular to advantage of the conditions and began
to smash the ball to all parts of the outfield. Walker also began to play some
cracking drives, but was playing second fiddle to the Largo captain who passed
his fifty with another boundary. Walker was soon celebrating the landmark as
these two men took away any nerves the home-side dressing room had about the
outcome of this match. It was fitting that Mowat hit the winning four as he
finished unbeaten on 89 and Walker carried his bat for 61. These two had won the
match for Largo at nearly a run a ball !
Next week
Largo travel the short distance to Dalgety Bay.
