In a game sponsored by Robert Summers, Largo had a dismal display at home to Murrayfield/DAFS on Saturday.
Asked to bat first Largo were soon in all sorts of trouble as a slow run rate was compounded with the frequent loss of wickets. After 10 overs Largo had stumbled to 18 for 2 with only Guy Robinson showing any sort of form expected from title-chasing batsmen. The predictable middle order collapse materialized and Largo slumped to a pitiful 70 all out. Only Guy Robinson, with a well constructed 20 and Aly Gibson with a defiant 14 made it into double figures, with no fewer than 6 Largo batters playing poor shots to get themselves out.
Murrayfield/DAFS were set the less than difficult target of 71 of 55 overs on a wicket were 150 is seen as a low score. The Largo side attempted to make good the damage from their batting display, no doubt the words from Captain Mowat at the tea interval still ringing in their ears, but Murrayfield/DAFS secured the victory in the 22nd overs with the loss of just 3 wickets. Barclay was the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets for 10 runs of 5 overs.
Largo travel to Striling County next week and anything less than a victory will surely see them playing division 4 cricket again next year.
