Largo
continue their good run of form.
Largo
managed a good victory of the last over against Trinity at Edinburgh. In a game
sponsored by BWD Cook Heating Specialists, Mowat lost the toss and was asked to
bat. The openers made steady progress until Cook was caught behind for 24 with
the total on 40. Mowat carried on from last week and scored fluently. Walker was
next to go for a patient 17 followed soon after by the captain for 36. Largo
suffered the loss of a number of quick wickets until Ali joined Barclay in the
middle. These two scored quickly just as the home side was looking to bowl Largo
out for a small total. The departure of Barclay, then Ali for an excellent 27
did nothing to diminish the run rate as the tail wagged and Largo finished on
176 for 8 after 50 overs
The
home side lost an early wicket due to the bowling of Mowat when McLellan was
bowled with the score on 3 . Trinity did not look comfortable against Ritchie as
the youngster bowled with real pace and aggression. Wickets were tumbling
regularly as no batsman could stay with the remaining opening batsman, Tunnah to
forge a match winning partnership. When Tunnah was eventually run out for a well
constructed 54 all hope Trinity had of winning the game disappeared, although
Largo were running out of overs to claim the victory they were looking for. The
final wicket fell in the last over , and special mention should be given to
Selkirk who walked when he gave a faint edge to Simpson with the umpire unsure.
This sort of sportsmanship is sadly dwindling from today's cricket. The bowlers
all bowled well with Mowat leading the way with 5 for 34 and "The Ryan Road
Express", Stuart Ritchie taking 1 for 15 of 15 overs.
Next
week Largo play hosts to near neighbours Dalgety Bay in the Fife Derby match.
