Largo produced a lacklustre display against Murrayfield/Dafs at Edinburgh on Saturday.

In weather more akin to Egypt to Edinburgh, Mowat won the toss and elected to field on a wicket that would turn out to be unresponsive for either batting or bowling. The home side started slowly and Ritchie claimed his first wicket with only one run on the board. This brought the elegant Hubbard to the crease and, he and the remaining opener Marshall put on 46 before the loss of Marshall clean bowled for 14. Largo were struggling in the heat and let themselves down with bad fielding and ordinary bowling. The home side continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over despite the loss of wickets. Murrayfield finished their innings on 178 for 9. Only Mowat out of the 4 bowlers was anywhere near top form finishing with 4 for 28.

The Largo reply started slowly and was not helped with the early loss of Walker with the score on 20. Cook was soon sitting on the sidelines with his opening partner with only 3 runs added to the total. Mowat and Kinnear offered some resitance before Kinnear was out for 26. Largos problems mounted when Simpson had to retire hurt just as he and the Largo captain looked like they might be able to win the match. The likelihood of a victory evaporated when Mowat was caught on the boundary for 45 and the remaining Largo batsmen offered some attacking strokes but, really the draw was the best Largo could hope for.

Largo face Stirling County next week and if the teams title aspirations are to continue then the performance with bat and ball will have to improve.
