Largo made it two wins in a row when they travelled the short distance to Dalgety Bay.
In a game sponsored by the Lundin Links Hotel, Mowat lost the toss and was asked to bat on a wicket that was giving low bounce. The opening pair of Walker and Cook sound adjusted to the conditions and began to push the ball around the field for singles. Cook in particular, adapted quicker and was soon posting the ball to the boundary. The fifty partnership came up in the 13th over and these two started to build a match-winning total. Cook was the first player out for 40, when he played on. with the team score on 88. Mowat attempted to keep the run rate going but was soon back in the pavilion after scoring 3. Kinnear was next in and he and Walker set about the Dalgety Bay attack with renewed vigour. Walker reached a finely crafted 50 in the 35th over and then started to play a number of attacking shots before he was well caught at backward point for 62. Largo at this stage were on full shot making mode in search of a big total that would lead to an early declaration and this led to a number of wickets falling. Mowat finally call a halt to the run feast in the 48th over with the score on 217 for 5 but not before Kinnear had completed his maiden half century for the season.
Dalgety Bay started positively despite the fact Chris Barclay was bowling with considerable pace and accuracy, and it was well deserved when he snapped the first wicket in his final over of his spell with the score on 38. The introduction of Smith and Mowat into the bowling attack paid immediate dividends with Smith claiming two wickets in his first over, both catches held by Azman Ali. The first in particular was absolutely outstanding and would be seen as a great catch in any level of cricket. The loss of these two wickets caused a major batting collapse in the Dalgety Bay ranks as they slumped from 38 for 1 to 60 all out. The ever-dependable Mowat claimed 3 for 19 while Smith cleaned up the tail to finish with 5 wickets for 8 runs.
This was arguably Largos best performance of the season with the batters showing their undoubted talents, and the bowling attack able to take wickets when needed. The weeks of hard work at fielding practice is beginning to bear fruit with every catch held and run outs taken. Bill Simpson has constantly shown why he is the best wickky in the league with some outstanding work behind the stumps.
Next week Largo face Watsonians in a 2nd v 3rd contest.
