Bad Weekend for Largo Sides

Largo welcomed Holy Cross to East Drive looking to build upon the tie game last weekend. With a strong team out the mood was good and on what looked a good batting wicket Captain Rintoul won the toss and opened himself with 1st team debutant King.

Unfortunately Rintoul didn’t make the use of the facilities falling for only 1 with King also falling early on for 13. This brought in form pair Anderson and Kumar to the crease and they both continued on where they had left off in previous matches guiding Largo to the 100 mark at half way and a big score looked on the cards. The Largo collapse however was seen again with Kumar going just after reaching his half century quickly followed by Robertson and Gillin, leaving Eglinton and Harney to get through to the 40 overs with Anderson who remained not out on 67, giving the home side a competitive score of 194.

Holy Cross opened in reply with Jaffery and Bilal, but it was Largo who go the early breakthrough Harney removing Jaffery for a duck. The momentum from this wicket though was not to continue with Bilal's big hitting in partnership with Minto edging Holy Cross toward the target only 1 wicket down at half way with Rintoul shuffling his bowlers looking for a much need strike.

Star performer with the ball Eglinton would eventually get the breakthrough removing Minto finishing with figures of 2 for 28 off his 8 overs. His performance however was not enough to win and after a few dropped catches in wet conditions proving critical, Holy Cross reached their target with 5 overs and wickets to spare. This was a disappointing loss with a win in their next game at home to Livingston now looking needed to get back on track for the season.

The 2nds were also at home this weekend on Sunday hosting Peebles. Winning the toss captain Chris Baddeley opted to bowl. Against a strong batting line up the largo bowlers struggled to keep the score down with Sykes scoring a well hit hundred before becoming one of Sneddon's 2 wickets to his off spin. With captain Baddeley the stand out with figures of 1 for 26 of his 8 overs the visitors finished on 201 off there 40 overs, which as with the day before looked a competitive total.

In reply the total proved to be just out of the reach of the home side with father and son Nick and Chris Baddeley proving to be the main performers in the innings with 56 and 46 respectively. The Largo side finished with 163 off their 40 overs leaving the club with an unwanted 0 for 2 record in the weekend, but with some good performances to build upon next weekend for hopefully better all around results.
