2/3 wins for Largo

Match Reports this weekend 26/27th August

1sts

This weekend the 1st team travelled the long journey to St Boswells to face fellow Div 2 struggler’s in the hope that a win would mean survival. The home side won the toss and chose to bat on a pitch that had felt the brunt of the Scottish weather. The St Boswells innings throughout was steady with even despite a few expensive overs near the end, the run rate never gettting away from the Largo side. In their 40 overs the home side scored 146/6 with Chris Baddeley taking 2/20 and Hughes Gillin bowling tightly for 1/14 off his 8 overs.

In reply on an ever deteriorating pitch unfortunately Largo never got going with only the two Chris' Baddeley and Barclay making double figures. In the end Largo finished 84 all out which unfortunately results in relegation despite the best efforts of the side throughout the season.

2nds

At East Drive the 2nds looking to finish the season on a high note welcomed bottom club MDAFS 3s and won the toss and decided to field first. From the start the Largo bowlers used the good bowling conditions well with tight bowling from the openers Ben Coates and Jess putting the pressure on for King to remove both openers and leave the side 19-2 and scoring less than 2 an over.

Further good bowling followed from all with Ian Brown cleaning up the tail with 4/11 to bowl the visitors out for 110 inside 36 overs.

In reply Largo started poorly with Robertson and King going cheaply however it was the combination of brothers Ben and Dom Coates who would prove the difference for the home side. By the time Ben was dismissed for 36 Largo were with in 20 runs of victory and by the time Dom made his 50 Largo would reach their target soon after resulting in a 7 wicket victory and a good way to finish the season for the 2s.

3rds/Sunday team

At East Drive again on Sunday the Largo XI faced Norwood looking to register just their 2nd win of the season in this league. Lead by captain for the Day Sneddon Largo fielded first on a sunny day with Bentley and Lister opening the bowling. With Norwood scoring well Lister, young Ben Michie and Forno would all take a wicket but it was the introduction of Captain Sneddon that would change the game towards the Largo side. Bowling accurately with his leg spin he took 4/20 off 5 overs and helped limit the opposition to 164/9 off their 40 overs.

Fresh from his bowling success, Sneddon opened with himself and Gillin, however it would be a poor start for the home side with Gillin, S.Michie and Bentley all gone with only 31 on the board. However once the openers for Norwood had finished Sneddon opened his arms and along with Forno built a match winning partnership with Sneddon hitting boundarys at will accelerating from 20-50 in only 4 overs.

Eventually Sneddon going for another big hit would fall for 65 which brought Brown to the wicket to partner Forno. Brown continued on from where Sneddon left off and with help from Haresign (9) Forno scored 30 and Brown finished 26 NO to give Largo for the first time all season a 2/3 win weekend and a positive end to what at times has been a tough season for the club in the leagues.
